Area Code 580 Overview

Area code 580 is one of the original area codes established in 1947. It covers most of western Oklahoma, including the cities of Oklahoma City, Lawton, and Duncan. Despite the proliferation of cell phones and other devices that don't use traditional telephone numbers, area code 580 remains an important part of the state's communications infrastructure. Many businesses and individuals still rely on landlines, and area code 580 is the code for those lines.

The area code has seen its share of changes over the years. It was originally divided into two zones, 580A and 580B. In 1995, however, the two zones were merged into a single area code.

In addition to the traditional landline phones, area code 580 is also used for pagers, faxes, and other communications devices. Despite the growth of alternative technologies, the area code remains an important part of Oklahoma's communications infrastructure.

Area Code 580 History

580 area code is one of the original area codes established in 1947. It originally served the western third of the state of Oklahoma. In 2000, it was combined with 405 area code to form the new 405 area code. However, in 2013, the 580 area code was split off from the 405 area code, and it began serving the eastern third of the state of Oklahoma.
